Boston’s ENERGY STAR Winner Profile

Isabell O.
Walpole, MA

We have replaced all of our appliances in the kitchen and laundry room to ENERGY STAR appliances. We changed our shower heads and replaced all faucets with low flow models. We switched all light bulbs throughout the house to ENERGY STAR compact fluorescent light bulbs. We have also had our furnace evaluated for energy efficiency.

Q: What is the smartest energy decision you have made?
We’ve replaced all of our old appliances (refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer) that were not energy efficient – and costly to run – with all new ENERGY STAR ones. We’ve also replaced light bulbs throughout the house with ENERGY STAR compact fluorescent bulbs.

Q: How has this decision affected your lifestyle and your wallet for the better?
We are environmentally conscious and we’ve also noticed a difference in our utility bill. Our ENERGY STAR appliances are more efficient, quieter, and seem to work in a lot less time than the old ones, which is a plus in our career-oriented lives.

Q: Are you surprised at the big changes that came from making a small change?
We were surprised that just replacing light bulbs throughout the house with ENERGY STAR compact fluorescent ones made such a difference in our electric bill.

Q: What led you to make the decision in the first place?
We have always been energy conscious and try to do our part to conserve. Our appliances were over ten years old, so we did our research for products that had the ENERGY STAR label. It was the right decision to make and we’re very pleased with it.

Q: How have you shared your experience with others?
We do tell all our family and friends how much we enjoy our new ENERGY STAR appliances, and some of our neighbors have already purchased new ENERGY STAR appliances as well.
