ENERGY STAR® Qualified Compact Fluorescent Light (CFLs) Bulbs:

  • Use up to 75% less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and last up to 10 times longer.
  • Can save you over $50 in energy costs over each bulb's lifetime.
  • Generate up to 75% less heat, so they're safer to operate and can cut the energy costs associated with home cooling.
  • Contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing and need to be properly disposed of at the end of their life.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Residential Light Fixtures:

  • Use 75% less energy than traditional lighting.
  • Can save you over $450 in energy costs over their lifetime when you replace the two most frequently used light fixtures in your home, and the bulbs in them, with ENERGY STAR® qualified models.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Refrigerators:

  • Could be costing you approximately $300 each year to operate (if made before 1993), depending on the size and model year.
  • Replace it with a new ENERGY STAR® qualified model and cut your related energy costs in half.
  • Use at least 20% less energy than required by current federal standards.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Dishwashers:

  • Can save you more than $25 a year on your electric bill compared to similar models that only meet the current federal standard.
  • Use more than 40% less energy than the federal minimum standard for energy consumption.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Room Air Conditioners:

  • Can save you more than $20 a year on your electric bill compared to similar models that only meet the current federal standard.
  • Use at least 10% less energy than conventional models.
  • Often include timers for better temperature control, allowing you to use the minimum amount of energy you need to cool a room.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Clothes Washers:

  • Can save up to $80 in annual energy and water costs.
  • Can save more than 7,000 gallons of water annually.
  • Use at least 30% less energy than standard models.
  • Use 10-20 gallons of water per load, compared to the 30-35 gallons used by a standard machine, which saves water.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Dehumidifiers:

  • Can save you about $40 per year for a 40-pint ENERGY STAR® qualified dehumidifier. This can add up to more than $350 over the life of the unit; paying for the dehumidifier.
  • Remove the same amount of moisture as a similarly-sized standard unit, but uses 10-20 percent less energy.

ENERGY STAR® Qualified Room Air Cleaners:

  • Can save you more than $45 a year on your electric bill compared to similar models that only meet the current federal standard.
  • ENERGY STAR® qualified room air cleaners are 35% more energy-efficient than standard models.
  • A typical room air cleaner, operating continuously, uses approximately 50% more electricity than the power used by a new refrigerator
